Back Cover Text
Muriel E. (Gammons) Eddy and Clifford Martin Eddy, Jr.
were married on February 10, 1918 following a correspondence which developed
from their common interest in creative writing. They continued their writing
careers after marriage, raising a family of three children.
In 1923 they met H.P. Lovecraft and enjoyed a
close association with him until his death in 1937. The three of them
frequently sat long hours into the night at the Eddys house reading aloud
their newest weird and macabre creations.
Mrs. Eddy wrote many profiles of H.P. Lovecraft
over the years. The first article she wrote was for the booklet Rhode Island
on Lovecraft published by Grant-Hadley in 1945. She was also president of
the Rhode Island Writers Guild for over twenty years.
Mr. Eddy has had many of his stories published in
mystery, detective and occult magazines, most notably Weird Tales.
He worked in collaboration with Lovecraft on
research projects for the magician Harry Houdini. Mr. Eddy and Lovecraft also
took many midnight walks to various parts of Providence and beyond, exchanging
ideas for stories of the fantastic as they went along.
